Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8007 Reviews
The Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8007 is a laptop that doesn’t deliver anything it promises. At first glance, it might look like a good desktop replacement due to its sheer size but it doesn’t provide performance that s anywhere close a desktop. The new Satellite P505D-S8007 seems to provide last generation performance and worse than even its predecessor, P505-S8980. Even, the smaller Satellite A505-S6025 performs better due to its latest Intel Core i3 processor. The P505D-S8007 is priced at $749 and the $649 Asus U50F-RBBAG05 provides faster performance than Toshiba Satellite.
The Toshiba seems to have taken the step back from its predecessor, which runs on Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The P505D-8007 runs on 2.3 GHz AMD Turion II Dual-Core M520 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics, RS780 chipset, 500GB 5,400rpm, 4GB, 800 MHz DDR2 memory, and Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) processor.
Considering the dimensions of 17.4×11.6×1.6 inches, the Satellite P505D-S8007 is a large and heavy laptop. It is seriously heavy at 9 pounds and 10 pounds along with AC adapter. You need a large and strong backpack to carry the laptop if you have strong shoulders. But it seems to have good build quality even though it’s bulky. The laptop is designed in glossy black casing with gray lines and matte black bottom. The glossy skin is prone to fingerprints and smudges.
The laptop has 18.4-inch glossy LED-backlit display, which is the most attractive feature of the laptop and its biggest selling point. The display is slightly bizarre resolution of 1680×945 pixels as it is better than 1366×768-pixel resolution but it is not full HD resolution of 1900×1080 pixels. Along with the attractive display, the interior looks good as it features good quality Harman-Kardon speakers, eight touch sensitive controls for media playback, full-sized keyboard with separate number pad and the Webcam.
Due to its large size, the Satellite P505-S8007 manages to offer some ports that you will not find on many other laptops. However, there is a noticeable omission of HDMI video port. Considering that the display is not full 1080p, the omission of HDMI is seems strange. You get three USB 2.0 ports, one USB/eSATA sleep-and-charge port, VGA-out port, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, multiformat memory card reader, mini-FireWire, ExpressCard/54, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and DVD/CD burner.
