Samsung Transform, touted to be a close cousin of Epic 4G, has been finally unveiled by Sprint.

This Android powered smartphone will be one of the first Sprint devices to feature Sprint ID.

The mid range smartphone runs on the Android 2.1 platform. It comes with a medium resolution (320 x 480 pixel) touch screen display measuring 3.5 inches. Equipped with accelerometer, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, the screen of Samsung Transform handset will display sharp and bright images in their true colors.

To meet the demand of customers who prefer a real keyboard to the on-board virtual keyboard, Samsung has added a slide out full QWERTY keyboard to the device.

Two cameras are integrated in the Samsung Transform handset. The 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with zoom, flash and video recorder is located on the back of the Transform handset. The 0.3-megapixel VGA camera on the front of the Samsung Android phone is primarily meant for video chatting.

Samsung has packed this Android smartphone with popular entertainment features. Transform users could easily access the Android Market, which is currently featuring more than 80,000 applications. The built-in MP3 music player could play songs and music tracks downloaded from Sprint Music Store.

Sprint subscribers could access Sprint TV service with the Transform handset. Popular Google services such as GMail, Google Search, YouTube and Google Maps are preloaded in the Samsung Transform handset. Social networking enthusiasts could connect to their Twitter and Facebook friends directly from the home screen of the Samsung phone.

This Samsung device supports Wi-Fi and the high-speed EV-DO network of Samsung. It features Stereo Bluetooth, USB 2.0, GPS with Sprint Navigation, 512 MB on board storage and microSD memory card slot. The phone’s battery supports six hours of talk time and 14.6 days of standby time.

The Sprint ID is one of the major attractions of the Android device. The Sprint ID packs will allow Samsung Transform users to download applications, wallpapers, widgets and ringtones related to a specific subject all at once from the Android Market. Therefore, a businessperson could download business-related apps and a golf enthusiast could download golf-related apps with minimal hassle.

Sprint will sell Samsung Transform for $150 along with a 2-year service contract.
