Sprint Launches BlackBerry Style
Sprint and Research In Motion (RIM) have jointly launched BlackBerry Style 9670, an elegant smartphone, flaunting a flip design. This latest BlackBerry device in Sprint’s portfolio will be one of the first smartphones to feature the new BlackBerry 6 operating system.
Although, BlackBerry is primarily noted for its bar shaped smartphones with QWERTY keypads, RIM has discovered through a market research that a sizeable portion of smartphone customers prefer flip phones. According to Sprint’s vice president, Product Development, Fared Adib, “The beautiful and compact flip form factor on the BlackBerry Style smartphone makes it quite unique within the BlackBerry lineup.
David J Smith, vice president of Product Management, RIM said, “The flip form factor appeals to a very distinct but sizeable set of consumers in the US, and we’re pleased to work with Sprint to bring this unique new BlackBerry smartphone to their customers.
The feature rich BlackBerry smartphone flips open to reveal a high-resolution display and a full QWERTY keyboard for typing texts, emails and messages. The BlackBerry Messenger or BBM, preloaded in the smartphone handset, supports chatting in real-time. Two large displays have been included in the smartphone.
The external display has been designed for viewing messages and notifications. The high-resolution main screen of the flip smartphone will display videos and web pages in their true colors. An optical trackpad has been included in the smartphone for smooth navigation.
A 5 megapixel camera with flash and video recorder has been added to the BlackBerry Style 9670 handset. This new Sprint BlackBerry smartphone is equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity for faster connection and wider data coverage.
The built-in GPS supports navigation apps and geo tagging. Along with sizeable on board storage space, BlackBerry Style supports up to 32 GB of external memory expansion through microSD memory card.
The BlackBerry 6 operating system integrated in the smartphone supports an advanced user interface. The intuitive feature of the interface will enable users to manage RSS feeds and social networking with minimal hassle.
Prominent social networking applications including Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Twitter are preinstalled in the BlackBerry Style handset. PC-like web browsing is supported by the WebKit based browser.
BlackBerry Style could be bought from the Sprint retail stores in royal purple and steel gray colors from 31st October for $100 after a $100 mail-in rebate.
