Sony Internet TV Launched With Built-In Google TV

With the rising popularity of the Android operating system, the manufacturers of electronics consumer products are now trying to integrate the Google operating system into newer gadgets.

After Android phones and the Android-based tablet PCs, it is now time to welcome Google TV. The Japanese electronics giant, Sony, has launched the world’s first Google TV.

In a press release, Mike Abary, senior vice president of Sony’s Home Division said, “Sony Internet TV is the world’s first HDTV that combines the big-screen impact of television and full internet search to deliver an unrivaled entertainment experience.” The Sony Internet TV will enable consumers to watch TV programs and web sites simultaneously on the same screen.

The Sony Internet TV will run on the Android platform. The robust functionality of the high-definition internet television will be powered by the Intel Atom processor. Web browsing is supported by the Google Chrome browser.

The Sony Internet TV, featuring built-in Google TV will be available in four screen sizes. The 24-inch LCD HDTV of Sony will cost $599.99, the 32-inch model will carry a $799.99 price tag, the 40-inch Internet TV will cost 999.99 and the large 46-inch Google TV will be available for $1,399.99.

Sony has also launched Internet TV Blu-ray Disc player with integrated Google TV. This cheaper alternative to the HD Google TV, will allow consumers to enjoy the high-end features of Google TV on their existing HDTV screen. The Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray Disc player will cost $399.99.

All the HD Google TVs from Sony will offer Dual View, which will allow customers to surf the web while watching their television programs. Moreover, you can search for contents on the internet and the television at the same time. In addition, the Android powered internet TVs could be connected to select Android mobile phones.

The Google TVs feature Wi-Fi, four USB ports and four HDMI inputs. The Internet TVs will be shipped with a hand held RF QWERTY keypad remote with built-in optical mouse. From early next year, applications would be made available for downloading from the Android Market on the Sony Google TV. The Sony Internet TV models will feature Qriocity powered Video on Demand service. Twitter, YouTube, Napster, Netflix, CNBS and Pandora apps are preloaded in the Internet televisions.
