Sony Ericsson Txt Pro Mobile Review
The Sony Ericsson txt pro, announced in June, 2011 is now available in Indian markets with a price tag of Rs.7500. It is not a full featured smart phone but a pretty device suitable for messaging, chatting and connecting with friends on social media networks like facebook, twitter, etc with its slide out Qwerty keyboard.
Sony Ericsson Txt Pro Mobile Features
Interface
The txt pro has a TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and supports 256K colors. The java based operating system allows for the creation of multiple desktops on your screen which makes it convenient to take incoming calls while accessing your mailbox and vice versa. The device has an auto rotate UI and four corner home screen with fixed icons for messages, browser, dialer and phone book.
The handset boasts a scratch resistant surface and proximity sensor for auto turn-off. One prominent glitch is that the auto turn-off is set at 15 seconds which is usually not enough, and it lacks a setting for adjusting this timer.
An app called ‘Friends’ is available on the home screen which allows you to assign up to 5 favorite contacts to be readily accessible from this page. You can easily access their facebook and twitter account details and your recent communications via calls and messages directly from here.
Connectivity
The Sony Ericsson txt pro runs on the 2g network with GPRS and EDGE speeds of 85.6 kbps and 236.8 kbps respectively. It also supports Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0. Connectivity to social media networks has been facilitated by icon links to FB, Twitter, Orkut, Mobile Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. Gtalk and Picasa apps as well as multiple IM chatting via eBuddy is also available for download.
Multimedia
The handset features a 3.15 MP camera at the rear and it can shoot videos in QVGA resolution. The image quality is sharp with well defined colors and a send-to-web function enables sending the pictures to friends and family via email or messaging and uploading it to Picasa web albums.

The device supports popular audio formats like MP3, WAV, WMA, AMR and eAAC+. The handsfree which comes bundled with the phone provides for an enjoyable music listening experience with the good quality audio. The FM radio reception is poor, although the overall sound quality of the calls is pretty good.
Battery and Memory
This device from Sony runs on a standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery. It can last for upto 400 hrs. in stand-by mode and gives a talk time of 5hrs. and 10 min.
It has an internal memory of 100 MB with a 64 MB RAM. The phonebook and call records feature are available with photocall option. The external memory is expandable to 32 GB with microSD card slot.
Wrap-Up
The Sony Ericsson txt pro has stopped short of being a smartphone. Incompatibility with 3G, low video resolution, slightly smaller screen with 93 x 52 x 18 mm dimension and somewhat sticky slide out keypad are some of the shortcomings that hamper an otherwise well designed handset with a convenient QWERTY keypad, touchscreen and friendly user interface.
