The Adreno Graphics Processing Unit along with the 1GHz powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor will uplift the gaming experience of the smartphone by displaying 3D games at 60fps.

Through the first PlayStation certified device, users can access PlayStation games. In association with leading game publishers, Sony Ericsson would deliver rich and powerful games to Xperia Play users. Users can download impressive games compatible with the PlayStation Suite from the Android Marketplace. New titles that are currently available for Xperia Play users include Sims 3, FIFA 10 and Need for Speed, developed by EA, and Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed developed by Gameloft. In the near future, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play users could play high quality 3D games designed by Unity Technologies.

The PlayStation smartphone boasts of a large high-resolution, scratch resistant 4-inch touch screen display equipped with Bravia Engine and accelerometer. The smartphone will run on the latest Android Gingerbread operating system.

For snapping good quality photos and recording videos, Sony Ericsson has embedded a 5.1-megapixel camera equipped with zoom, flash, auto focus and image stabilizer. The built-in GPS will aid geo tagging of images captured with the phone’s camera. With the support of Google Maps and Wisepilot, you can convert your smartphone into a navigational device.

The powerful functionality of Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is powered by a Li-Ion battery, which supports up to 8.4 hours of talk time and 17.7 days of standby time. A major drawback of the smartphone is its 400MB on board storage space.

However, it supports external memory expansion through microSD card. Google Music Player, Bluetooth, high-speed USB port, HDMI port, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity are loaded in Xperia Play.

Xperia Play will be shipped worldwide in early spring.
