Shoot and Show with Nikon Coolpix S1200pj Digicam

It was just last year when Nikon rocked the digital camera market with its S1100pj with a built-in projector. A follow-up to S1100pj model is the Coolpix S1200pj that will be released in mid-September. Besides enabling image and video projection on flat surfaces, the Coolpix S1200pj now uses the integrated transfer accessory that enables video and still images playback from any iDevice such as the iPad, the iPod or the iPhone. The Coolpix S1200pj also behaves like a tethered projector when attached to a PC. However, one cannot use external speakers as the camera lends out the audio.

The Projector

The Coolpix S1200pj sports a DLP display with 100:1 contrast ratio and output of 20 lumens in contrast to the LCOS display of S1100pj model with 30:1 contrast ratio and output of 14 lumens. The original S1000pj model sported LCOS display with 30:1 contrast ratio and output of only 10 lumens.

This simply means that Coolpix S1200pj will offer 40% brighter output and better contrast as compared to its predecessors. Also, the Coolpix S1200pj sports raised and illuminated controls working on the idea that the projector will find use in a dark room.

 Nikon Coolpix S1200pj Digital Camera Features

Coolpix S1200pj as a camera sports 14.1MP CCD sensor similar to its predecessors. This model too sports the 35mm equivalent Nikkor lens with 5x optical zoom. Thanks to this particular lens that the camera offers focal lengths varying between wide-angle 28mm to telephoto 140mm. The camera offers zooming in the range of f/3.9 to f/5.8. Coolpix S1200pj also offers VR image stabilization up to ISO 6400.

Coolpix S1200pj sports a 3-inch display which is no different from that of its predecessors. The LCD display of Coolpix S1200pj sports 460,000 dots screen totaling to 153,000 pixels. Each of the pixels consists of red dots, blue dots and green dots adjacently. In the absence of an optical viewfinder, the screen of Coolpix S1200pj acts as the framer and reviewer of images. In macro mode, Coolpix S1200pj can focus on objects placed at a distance of 1.2in from the lens.
Coolpix S1200pj can record 720p videos with stereo sound.

Coolpix S1200pj uses secure digital cards such as SDXC and SDHC to store the movies and images. In case you forget to carry your Flash card along, the integrated 94MB memory is enough to capture the important moments.

With USB2.0 port, transferring images to a PC takes seconds. You can connect the camera to HDTVs via the HDMI output. Dimensionally, the Coolpix S1200pj is 4.3×2.5×0.9 inches and weighs 6.6oz along with the SD card and battery.

 Nikon Coolpix S1200pj Digital Camera Availability and Price

The Coolpix S1200pj will be sold in two versions – Classic Black and Funky Pink – in the US. Priced at $430, the Coolpix S1200pj will be around $80 more expensive than the S1100pj model launched last year.
