By on September 9, 2011

With the coming of smartphones or more specifically music phones, the fate of Mp3 players has started looking even darker. Of course there still exists a craze for the brand image i.e. the iPod but non-Apple players have to be really good to wade its way through the competition.

Amidst all these arrives Sansa Clip Zip from Sandisk which promises tons of storage (expandable to 32GB) in a handy and tiny package. This Mp3 player does not boast of innumerous features but its easy-to-use interface will definitely carve a niche for itself in the market.

Sansa Clip Zip  ($49.99 to $69.99) at the same price range that of the iPod Shuffle is more generous to offer a display. Also, it has been designed with a clip-on i.e. just clip this tiny music device onto your dress and rest assured that you won’t lose it.

In short, Sansa Clip Zip is a budget-range Mp3 player with features more than an iPod shuffle.

SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player Design

Dimensionally, the Sansa Clip Zip (2.25×1.42×0.58 in) is a little bigger than the iPod shuffle. It weighs mere 0.96 ounces and when you clip it on to your clothes you will almost forget where the music is coming from. It is available in 2 versions – 4GB version is priced at $49.99 and 8GB version is priced at $69.99.

Besides, the range of colors that Sansa offers is sure to fit into your complete wardrobe. Currently, Sansa Clip Zip is available in Grey, Black, Blue, White, Purple, Red and Orange. Sansa Clip Zip also includes a USB cable and earbuds.

The Power button is to the top of the player. At the left edge, microUSB port and volume buttons find place and at the right edge, there are audio jack and microSD slot. The front part is adorned with 5-way directional pad, 1.1-inch display and Back button.

Playing the Sansa Clip Zip

The player takes longer than usual (30 seconds+) to boot. Locking and unlocking is quite faster. The player automatically turns off when it is not being used for considerable time period. The directional pad is much better than the Sansa Fuze+ with Up/Down/Left/Right buttons each of which performs double functions. It resembles the iPod classic with a scroll wheel having clickable buttons.

SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player Interface

The Sansa Clip Zip sports a basic interface. Music, Books, Radio, Voice (meant for voice recordings), Sport (stopwatch), Card (microSD card) and Settings adorn the Home screen.

Each of the icons reveals scrollable text menus. Although navigation is simple, the tiny display blocks a larger view. The player offers free trial version of TuneUp app that collects information about your music assortment and updates information. The player accepts audio files in Mp3, WMA, Flac, OGG and AAC formats.

Adding music to the player is simple – just drag the files from your Mac or Windows PC and drop it into the player’s homescreen. On installing the Rhapsody app onto the player, you get access to its enormous songs library.

The FM Radio can be called annoying a bit as it does not go to specific stations at a go. Instead, it stops at every point such as at 98.1 and again at 98.2 and so forth.

SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player Performance

The battery supports playback for up to 15 hours. So, if you want an affordable Mp3 player that is handy, smart and has abundant storage then Sansa Clip Zip is your cup of tea.
