Samsung is preparing a new version of its famous Android powered smartphone Galaxy S2. The upcoming smartphone, dubbed Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103, is currently awaiting approval of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).

Unlike the other variants of Samsung Galaxy S2, the upcoming Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 handset will lack Samsung Exynos chipset. Instead, the new Samsung smartphone will be powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU. But can the NVIDIA Tengra 2 powered Galaxy S2 variant outperform its Samsung Exynos 4210 powered siblings?

Both the chipsets are equipped with a dual core ARM Cortex A9. In NVDIA Tegra 2 CPU, graphics is managed by the built-in NVIDIA ULP GeForce GPU, whereas in Samsung Exynos, graphics is handled by Mali-400 MP GPU. Spec wise, Mali-400 MP GPU seems to be superior to its NVIDIA counterpart. However, if you are an enthusiast gamer you might opt for the NVIDIA powered Android device, not because for superior graphics, but to download games optimized for NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors from the Tegra Zone.

As more and more smartphones are arriving in the market with the powerful dual core Tegra 2 chip, game developers are designing games optimized for the processor. PlayStation Suite will soon arrive in the Tegra Zone. However, if you want to view 1080p full HD videos on the high-resolution display of your smartphone, you would prefer Samsung Exynos to NVIDIA Tegra 2.

Other than the new chip, Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 will share most of its features with the Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone that is currently available in the market. The smartphone will run on the latest Android Gingerbread operating system. It will sport a 4.3-inch high-resolution Super AMOLED display, a key feature of high-end Samsung smartphones. The tough Gorilla Glass screen is resistant to scratches.

For snapping stills and recording videos, an 8MP camera will be installed in the touchscreen phone. With the built-in video recorder, users can shoot 1080p full high-definition movies at 30frames per second speed. To enhance the quality of images snapped with the smartphone camera, LED flash, auto focus, image stabilizer, face detection and smile detection are built into the phone camera. A secondary 2-megapixel camera will aid video calling.

The latest version of Bluetooth will connect the Android smartphone to Bluetooth compatible accessories and devices. Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 will support robust browsing speed over 3G network. It is unclear whether the upcoming version of Samsung Galaxy S2 would support 4G connectivity.

It could be used for surfing the web in wireless Wi-Fi zones. The browser will support the latest Adobe Flash software. Multimedia contents could be shared wirelessly between Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 and DLNA certified televisions and PCs.

The 1GB RAM will significantly ease multitasking. The upcoming smartphone is expected to offer a large onboard storage space. The built-in GPS with the help of navigation software and Google Maps would convert the smartphone into a navigation device. Along with the Android Market, Samsung S2 GT-I9103 smartphone users could access Samsung Social Hub, Game Hub, Readers Hub and Music Hub.

The upcoming smartphone is likely to arrive on the AT&T network.
