Going with their earlier custom for offering rugged mobile phones, capable of sustaining unwanted drops and water spillage, Samsung has launched one more phone to this line of extreme phones. These phones are specially loved by those who are involved in extreme sports and adventure. This will also be ideal for people living an outdoorsy lifestyle that demands their phones to be protected from the elements.

The latest phone, christened as Samsung E2370 X-treme Edition has been introduced in Germany where it will be available from this month onwards. The phone has been priced at about 129 Euro. After Germany, the phone will be available in Sweden and Russia as seen from the official announcements from Samsung.

While the market is gearing itself to Android phones, it is worth noting that Samsung has come up with a phone not competing in the Android race but catering to the loyal base of users who particularly buy and use rugged phones.

This phone offers users security against water spillage, random drops and blocks entering of dust particles inside the device. Above all, the battery life, as Samsung claims, is worth the price. The 2000mAh Lithium-ion battery reportedly will provide a standby time of 67 days. The phone also comes with IP54 certification.

The standalone consideration, which users will have to contend with, is the fact that the phone comes with the simple and basic features found in entry-level mobile phones. These include a display of 1.77 inches with 128 x 160 p resolution, VGA camera, music player and FM radio. Connectivity is offered through Bluetooth 2.1. Memory can be expanded up to 2GB via a microSD slot. Other features include: a flashlight and a loudspeaker.

How this mobile phone does in the market remains to be seen. Critics are of the opinion that since the phone is aimed at traveling or adventuring people, a GPS receiver would have been the true USP. Samsung could have also introduced software applications for sportsmen such as the ones found in the iPhone.

These apps could have transformed this phone from an entry-level phone to a mid-budget phone as sportsmen and fitness freaks would have loved a rugged handset delivered with fitness & health monitoring software.
