Today in the world of information technology where data grow with the rate higher than anything else, who wants to delete data, rather who has time to do so. The basic storage unit for any type of computer is called a hard drive, which stores data. But very soon you can feel that there is a restriction of size with the internal hard drive and then you need external hard drive. External portable hard drive has the same function as the internal hard drive, i.e., to hold data. The only difference is that external hard drive is the one that holds data outside the system and connected to either of the interfaces – FireWire or USB.

Various vendors provide portable hard drive, whereas if one values for money the first name would be LaCie 2TB. Others are verbatim quad interface professional drive, Wiebe Tech RTX400 QR, Simple tech Duo pro Drive, Apricon aegis desktop 1500.

LaCie costs you between $294.79 to $359.81 with FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and external SATA-300 as the supported interfaces and 100 as a performance measure on a scale of 100. Verbatim Quad will be cost effective as this 1TB external drive will cost you in the range of $168.85 to $195.09 and has all three support interfaces, but has a slight compromise on the performance being 95 on the scale of 100.

WeibeTech RTX400 QR has all three support interfaces, but being heavy and does not have heavy- duty protection for faceplates it is not a recommended one. The only positive point is, it supports eSATA, FireWire400/800 and USB with super heavy -duty top mounted handle and 4TB capacity. The features and design are also not very good as compared to others. Simple Tech that costs you around $399.99 has good performance of 91 on scale of 100.

It is a strong one with a chassis that is designed really well to suit the product requirement with maximum rotational speed of 7200rpm and supports eSATA-300 and USB 2.0. Apricon Aegis has bundled software for Mac users also with no performance compromise and have dual eSATA and USB support interfaces.

Few other products are CMS –ABS plus 1TB, V2 desktop backup system, whereas Seagate portable hard drive provides FreeAgent X-Treme and BlackArmor WS110 both with the capacity of 1TB.
