Olympus PEN E-P3 High End Digital Camera Review

Olympus PEN E-P3 is a high end digital camera for those photographers who know their trade. You will miss the size and weight of an SLR. However, you will get top class performance. Newbie users can stay away from this camera, because this camera is not that cheap and requires you to play with advanced controls and features.

If you are comfortable spending $900, this 12 megapixel camera might be just right for you too. However, keep in mind you can get decent SLR cameras for half the price. Then again, this camera is compact, lighter and easy to carry around while trekking, camping and everywhere you go.

Olympus Pen E-P3 comes with a metallic body and a sturdy design. Handling is also easy.

Fastest Auto-focus

While it is not easy to confirm Olympus’ claim of fastest auto-focus, it can be easily said this camera focuses on its subject really fast. The focusing takes less than one second. You can just go point and shoot – the subjects will always be in focus. And shutter response time is less than 60 milliseconds.

Touch Screen

The touch screen display of Olympus E P3 helps you to focus on your subjects quickly. Just touch the point you want to focus. The camera will shoot the image with the point of touch in focus. It is really fast. The photo will be recorded the moment you touch the subject on the screen. You may see more of ‘touch to shoot’ technology in the future. As of now, there are only very few cameras equipped with this technique.

Accessorize

You can connect an external flash, Macro Light, VF-2 viewfinder, PENPAL Bluetooth adaptor, etc.

Multiple Exposure

This function lets you shoot multiple images and combine them for a well illuminated and well composed image.

You can use micro four-thirds on offer by Olympus and Panasonic. That is, you have a wide selection of lens to use on this camera.

Creative Control over Image Ratio

Olympus E P3 lets you shoot in different aspect ratios like 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 1:1, and 3:4. Get creative with your camera and capture photos that are not bound by the traditional 3:2 aspect ratio.

ISO

The ISO speed can be increased up to 1600 without any creeping in of image noises. Beyond that, the images tend to become noisy. In addition, most compact cameras now go beyond 12MP.

Display

Equipped with live view, the screen displays the intricacies in crisp detail. To get the focus, you just have to touch the screen. The camera will shoot the picture instantly.

It also has in-built optical image stabilization feature. The camera body is equipped with this feature. Prime lenses without stabilization too will work just fine in PEN E-P3 by Olympus. In other words, you can buy cheap lenses and get great results from them too. In this sense, this camera can be cheaper in the long run.
