The all new Nikon D5100 DSLR is a new addition to the D5000 series. It is a single-lens reflex digital camera with a Nikon F mount. The camera has a rechargeable battery and an Ac adapter.

The quality of images and video with this new introduction by Nikon are mesmerizing. There are a number of features that improve the image quality in this camera. The most noteworthy ones are; the vari-angle screen, CMOS image sensor and the EXPEED 2 image-processing. It is a 16.2 megapixel camera with a 3 inch screen. The image quality of the LCD screen is extraordinarily sharp. The contrast ratio is 1000:1 and the screen also has a dot resolution of 921,000.

One of the most remarkable features of this camera is the vari-angle LCD screen, which can rotate 180 degrees horizontally as well as vertically. It offers full HD movie recording feature that also has an auto focus control. It also has a special effects mode, which can be used in both still photos and movies. The button for the special effects is located at the top of the device. It has options such as selective color, color sketch, miniature effect, night vision, high dynamic range, active d- lighting,etc.

The selective color option enables to choose between three different colors for the same scene, if no color is selected the objects will appear in either back or white. Color Sketch option can make any picture or stop motion movie appear like a colorful painting. The miniature effect, as the name suggests, enables to view movies and photos in a diminutive size. The night vision mode helps to shoot in dark surrounding also due to the high quality ISO sensitivities used. The high dynamic range provides a range of tones that can be applied to the picture quality. Active d-lighting also provides amazing lighting effect.

Any camera effects, after its selection, can be previewed through the lens in real time. This helps users confirm the effects before applying them. All the camera effects can be used while clicking still photos and also in movie recording. This is one of very few cameras in the market to offer such a feature. All these features help capture every minute detail in complete clarity.

The camera facilitates wireless control. This is made possible by the remote control with infrared receivers located on the front as well as back of the camera. The camera can be connected to a high definition TV via a HDMI connector. This facility can be used to playback still images as well as movies using the remote control of the TV. It also has a quiet shutter-release mode.

It also has the full-time-servo AF (AF-F) and the AF-area mode that provides the feature of subject tracking. This assures that the camera automatically keeps its focus on the subject.  It is a must have device for people who love photography and love to get creative with their camera.
