MetroPCS Launches Its First Android Smartphone LG Optimus M
LG Optimus M is the first Android-based smartphone of MetroPCS. This close cousin of LG Optimus One is an affordable Android based smartphone that primarily targets the mid range cell phone customers.
LG has created the Optimus models primarily for first time smartphone users. Moreover, LG Optimus M will be the first smartphone that MetroPCS will offer without an annual service contract.
In a press release, Roger Linquist, chairman, president and CEO of MetroPCS said, “LG Optimus M opens a path to the growing Android market and takes us one step closer to providing a full-service, postpaid experience while maintaining the affordability, flexibility and predictability of our Wireless for All services.”
At a $50 per month monthly fee, users of Optimus M could access the carrier’s nationwide unlimited talk, web and text services. The unlocked device, with “high end champagne finish”, could be purchased from MetroPCS stores for $229 without signing an annual contract.
LG has packed the easy to use Android based phone with the latest Android features. It will run on the Android 2.2 or Froyo operating system. The functions of the smartphone will be powered by a 600 MHz processor. The 4.47-inch long, 2.32-inch wide and 0.52 inch thick handset sports a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen. The LCD display equipped with multi touch and proximity sensor supports images of medium (320 x 480-pixel) resolution.
LG Optimus M features a 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with auto focus and camcorder. The integrated music and video players will keep users entertained on the go. Users can access over 100,000 applications present in the Android market.
Nearly sixty percent of these apps are free. In addition, MetroPCS subscribers could download games, wallpapers and ringtones from the @metro App Store. Facebook, Twitter and MySpace apps are preinstalled in the handset. LG Optimus M also supports YouTube player. This Android smartphone could be connected to Bluetooth compatible devices. It also features 3.5mm audio jack. LG Optimus M will work in Wi-Fi zones.
The first Android smartphone of MetroPCS offers 140MB of built-in memory. It supports memory expansion up to 32GB with microSD memory card. Optimus M supports A-GPS and S-GPS and turn-by-turn navigation app.
