With the coming of iPad, the Playbook and the Galaxy Tab, the dream of possessing a tablet must have raced every Indian’s heart by now. If the hefty price tag was the only barrier that stopped you from having a tablet then all your worries have come to an end.

Mercury, a renowned name in the domain of computer peripherals, has announced that it will soon launch a tablet in the price range of a smartphone. Yes, named as mTab, the tablet will be priced at just Rs. 9499. So, if that gives you a feeling that the mTab will be tablet for namesake, then just relax. mTab will run on triple core processor and will be based on Gingerbread OS. The 7-inch form factor will give a good feel of the tablet real estate. Besides, the mTab abounds in a number of infotainment services to make you fall in love with it.

Mercury mTab Design

The mTab sports a 7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen with WVGA (800x480p) resolution. Mercury has not yet released any information whether the display will be capacitive or resistive. The display also boasts of G-sensor rotation that will be really helpful when it comes to playing 3D games. Dimensionally, the mTab is 19.3×11.7×1.4cm and weighs mere 400g.

Hardware Features of Mercury mTab 

The mTab runs on a triple core processor with a clock speed of 1.2GHz. Owing to this ultra powerful processor, the mTab will be extraordinary with display performance. This means that watching movies or videos on the mTab will be a real cinematic experience. Mercury is yet to release full details about the CPU and GPU. Further, mTab will act as a medium to offer users full Android experience in an affordable range.

Based on Android 2.3 OS, popularly known as Gingerbread, the mTab will offer the users enormous possibilities with graphics performance and of course access to the vast range of applications in the Android Market. So, e-mail services, web access, music, videos, e-books and games will be at the tip of the users’ fingers. In addition, the mTab sports 512MB RAM and integrated storage of 4GB. However, users can expand the storage to 32GB with the help of microSD card.

Mercury mTab Connectivity

 The mTab supports WiFi 802.11b/g for wireless connectivity. The 3G slot in the tablet will open the 3G gateways for the users. Users can connect to the 3G world via external USB dongle. Besides, mTab supports personalized 3G packages as an add-on that will enable hassle-free Web browsing anywhere and everywhere.

Multimedia and Camera

The mTab sports a standard 1.3MP camera for capturing still images and recording videos. The mTab will run video playback for as long as 4 hours without any interruption. Support for video conferencing is an added advantage. Besides, mTab will support major image formats such as JPEG and music formats such as Mp3.
