The IdeaPad U150 is a nice looking ultraportable laptop from Lenovo, which will definitely provide some market share to Lenovo among the ultraportables. With weight of just under 3 pounds, the U150 offers a performance, looks and build quality that will please most users. Though the U150 is a bit expensive at $749 but it provides performance that is on par with most of its rivals and has very attractive design. The U150 has some unique design features, which some users will definitely appreciate.

The laptop is available in red or black lid, and the lid is provided with crystal spider-web like pattern, which gives it a unique look. The Lenovo has dubbed the design as “Sky Star.” The lid has been provided with the silver “Lenovo” label at one corner.

The screen bezel is made of shiny plastic and keyboard is designed in matte silver with exception of glossy black F keys. Overall, the laptop has sleek profile and it measures just 11.4 inches wide, 7.5 inches deep and 0.5-1.35 inches high. The U150 can be carried around without any hassles.

Both the models are not only different in color schemes but they also differ in terms of internal components. The black version provides better computing power than the red version. The black version runs on 1.30GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM, Intel GMA X4500 graphics chip, and a 320GB, 5400rpm hard drive. Whereas, the red model comes with Intel Pentium Dual-Core SU4100, 3GB of DDR3 memory, and 250GB of hard drive spinning at 5400-rpm. Both laptops have same display, which measure 11.6 inches diagonally and have native resolution of 1366×768 pixels. The display is LED-backlit and looks extremely sharp. The display resolution provides good real estate and text and graphics are readable. The display is prone to reflections under light as it is provided with glossy coating. Though, the videos look good on this laptop but the speakers sound tinny. So, it’s better to use headphones than using the built-in speakers.

The keyboard is impressive than most ultraportables. The keyboard has larger size than an ultraportable keyboard. So, it provides better typing experience than any other laptop. The touchpad is comfortable and the two mouse buttons are slightly raised above the surface for comfortable clicking.

The U150 manages the space to provide all the ports and connectors that you might require. The VGA-out is located on the left side along with the HDMI jack, and a USB 2.0 port, which also doubles as eSATA port. There are two USB 2.0 ports located on the right along side Ethernet jack, microphone/headphone jacks, Wi-Fi on/off switch.
