HTC Unveils New 4G Phone Evo Shift
HTC has launched the fourth-generation smartphone Evo Shift. The Android-based device is the successor to Evo 4G, the first 4G phone from the Taiwan-based cell phone manufacturer.
After the original Evo 4G and Samsung Epic 4G, Evo Shift 4G will be the third smartphone in Sprint’s fourth generation phone portfolio.
HTC Evo Shift 4G features
The full featured smartphone is powered by Android 2.2 or Froyo operating system. HTC has given Evo 4G’s successor a new design and several new specifications. The new Evo Shift has a smaller display and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, which was missing in the original Evo 4G.
The 3.7-inch, high-resolution (800 x 480 pixel) capacitive touch screen of HTC Evo Shift 4G displays bright and vibrant images in their true colors. To increase the handset’s responsiveness and to improve multitasking, HTC has given Evo Shift 512MB RAM. The robust functions of the handset are supported by the 800MHz processor.
HTC Evo Shift features seven-paneled home screen. Users can customize the home screen of the Android phone with apps and widgets. The ‘Leap’ thumbnail view helps users to navigate through the seven home screen panels. The New People app, preloaded on the handset, grabs latest messages, calls, emails and social networking updates from multiple sources. Social networking is facilitated by the Friend Stream app, which collects the updates, shared links and photos from Twitter, Facebook and Flickr.
For shutterbugs, HTC has packed a 5-megapixel camera in the Evo Shift 4G handset. Equipped with zoom, dual LED flash and auto focus, Evo Shift’s camera could be used for recording 720p high-definition videos. The front facing 1.3-megapixel camera of Evo Shift could be activated for video chatting.
The built-in MP3 player and FM radio will entertain users on the go. Sprint subscribers can download songs from the Sprint Music Store and watch the latest TV shows via Sprint TV. The web browser of Evo Shift is optimized to support automatically re-flowing text and pinch-to zoom functions. The 4G enabled smartphone could work in Wi-Fi mobile hotspots. Bluetooth 2.1, high-speed USB port, HDMI port, microSD memory card slot and GPS are also present on the handset.

HTC Evo Shift 4G costs $150 with a two-year Sprint service contract.
