HTC Rhyme Smartphone Review
HTC recently released the Rhyme designed for the women folk. HTC Rhyme is light but definitely not small so that you cannot feel it in hand. Sporting a minimalistic design, HTC Rhyme resembles most women devices.
By minimalistic design, we mean that HTC Rhyme has less ports and suffices with only USB port, 3.5mm audio jack, volume rocker, lock button and microUSB slot.
Design
The unibody design of HTC Rhyme is true to the nature of most HTC devices – sleek, slender and smart. However, the device does not feel as solid as the HTC Incredible 2. HTC Rhyme is available in the very feminine purple color but European and Asian buyers will get to taste many other flavors, like silver, mocha, blue, as well as plum.
In both the models, the quintessential tri-tone back (characteristic to tablets such as HTC Flyer) will enable HTC Rhyme carve a niche for itself in the market. HTC Rhyme sports 3.7-inch LCD display in WVGA resolution.
Hardware
HTC Rhyme runs on 1GHz Qualcomm processor which renders precise performance but geeks have nothing to be excited about it. But then, this phone is targeted towards the softer gender. Swiping through various icons on the home screen is handled pretty well by the Qualcomm processor.
In addition, HTC Rhyme is based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. HTC Rhyme sports 4GB internal memory that can be extended to 8GB with the help of the microSD card slot. The phone sports 768MB RAM.
Interface
HTC Rhyme is characterized by the proprietary HTC Sense UI. Although HTC Rhyme presents the improved version 3.5 of the HTC Sense UI, there are very less conspicuous elements in it. In fact, HTC Sense 3.5 allows the user almost similar actions that the earlier versions of the software did. For example, there are customizable icons on the home screen and preview panes.
What’s new is that now the user will have full control over music right from home screen. One of the advantages of Sense 3.5 is that it reduces the capture time substantially. This ensures that you capture the best shot without any trouble. It also enriches web browsing by supporting multi-window browsing, Flash support and lookup tool for search on Wikipedia as well as YouTube.
As the HTC Sense goes 3.5, HTC Rhyme sports 12 stock wallpapers, a new preview tab and upgraded Flip clock. The preview tab gives an account of recent e-mails, apps, text messages, photos and more. The HTC Rhyme preview tab resembles the live tiles of Windows Phone Mango though much more subtle.
Camera
The 5MP camera distances itself from the complex technicalities and sports some of the much-desired features such as instant shutter. Also, the lens is so that it renders natural images even under strict lighting conditions.
The camera captures 5 consecutive shots under Action Burst Scene mode so that you can choose the best among them. Moreover, the Beautify Skin effect proves that HTC Rhyme is targeted at the women folks. When set to portrait mode, Beautify Skin effect applies a smoothening effect to the subject’s skin. There is also a 0.3MP camera at the front facilitating video calls.
Social Networking
HTC Rhyme ensures that you stay connected with your friends’ latest posts and updates on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. Besides, your upcoming calls will show the callers’ status updates. It will notify you if it is the caller’s birthday to avoid awkward situations.
Also, HTC Rhyme uploads your captured images immediately to the recent Facebook album.
Connectivity
HTC Rhyme supports Bluetooth 3.0 for hassle-free connection and transfer of files. It also packs WiFi radio. Being launched on the waves of Verizon, the HTC Rhyme was supposed to support 4G LTE network as most other Verizon handsets are currently doing. But Alas! It seems like the girls will have to do without the immense potential of 4G LTE network.
Accessories
HTC Rhyme flaunts a Charm Indicator that flashes every time the phone rings or a text message is received and fits into 3.5mm audio jack. This has been included to ensure that you do not miss any calls even when your phone is inside your purse or pocket. In fact, the notification light flashes for five more minutes after the phone has stopped ringing. One limitation is that while you have the Charm Indicator plugged in, you cannot listen to music.
