HTC Brings Facebook Phones ChaCha And Salsa

After INQ, the Taiwan-based smartphone maker HTC has arrived with a pair of Facebook centric smartphones. The Android-based smartphones, named HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa, were recently unveiled at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona.

Both the smartphones boast of a dedicated Facebook button, enabling users to access the popular social networking site with a single touch. Through the Facebook widget, users could converse with friends. They can snap pictures with the built-in camera of the device and instantly share the photos with their Facebook friends.

ChaCha and Salsa will run on the latest Android Gingerbread operating system. HTC has packed the smartphones with a 600MHz CPU. HTC ChaCha flaunts a candy bar body with a 2.6-inch touchscreen display and a physical QWERTY keyboard for speedy typing.

HTC Salsa is a full touchscreen device featuring a 3.4-inch multi touch display. Accelerometer, light sensor and proximity sensor are embedded in the AMOLED displays of ChaCha and Salsa.

Both the smartphones will arrive with built-in 5-megapixel rear facing camera equipped with auto focus, LED flash, zoom and camcorder. The 0.3MP front facing camera of the smartphones will aid video calling. The HTC smartphones with entertain users with music blaring from its integrated MP3 player. However, the devices lack FM radio.

On the connectivity front, HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa feature Bluetooth 3.0, high-speed USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and HSPA Plus connection. With the aid of the built-in GPS and Google Maps Street View, you can convert the smartphones into navigational devices. Users can access key Google services and download apps from Android Market.

Both the smartphones offer limited on board storage space. However, the integrated microSD slot facilitates external memory expansion.

The 1250mAh Li-Ion battery of HTC ChaCha has enough juice to support up to 7.5 hours of talk time and up to 17.9 days of standby time. HTC has endowed Salsa with a more powerful 1520mAh Li-Ion battery that supports up to nine hours of talk time and up to 18.5 days of standby time.

Both the HTC smartphones will be shipped in Asia and Europe in the second quarter of this year. HTC did not reveal the pricing of the smartphones.
