iPad uses an all new format for SIM card, called the microSIM. Since there are not many microSIM cards available to run the WiFi-based 3G iPad, there’ve been some successful attempts for manufacturing microSIM cards by shrinking a normal size SIM card.

So, here it goes.The first thing you would require for this process is a microSIM adapter.

A microSIM adapter is available online for sale. Then, you’ve to chop the normal SIM card to smaller size with a good cutter. The point to note here is that both the normal SIM and microSIM should have an equal active area, but different plastic area.

Set the printer at 100% and get a print out of the SIM template. Now, this is essential as once you set the printer at 100 percent, the size of the new card will be affected. You will require a scotch tape, a mechanical pencil (a normal pencil with very sharp tip would also do), sharp knife or a fine cutter and a pair of small scissors.

After the print out of the SIM card at 100%, you will have to place the SIM card on the template. Then fix the SIM using the scotch tape. Trace the shape of the SIM on the paper. On turning the paper upside down, we will be able to see the microSIM sides.

Mark the sides with the sharp mechanical pencil. Do not forget to mark in the cut out space too. Trace with force the future microSIM template over the area that you have marked. Trace only once because if you keep on tracing over it again and again then this might lead to unwanted results.

Take the scissors and cut along the traced lines. Remove the remaining part and you will get a ready-to-use microSIM card inserted in adapter. It is amazing to find the perfect fit in such a short duration of time.

This fast and easy method has been devised for those who wanted to own an iPad, but had to bother for the presence of microSIM card. Now, no more worries! Just get the essential tools and you can make a microSIM card at your home just like I have done.
