The specification list of Droid Incredible states that the device is capable of shoot Mp4 movies and save them in the same format. But the users complain that it is actually not so as the movies are saved in 3gp format.

This is owing to a probable uncorrected bug. It is true that the device shoots video in Mp4 format but later converts them to 3gp format. The converter helps to an extent but then we have to deal with the poor quality of the video upon conversion from 3gp to Mp4. Besides, the conversion leads to loss of data from the device.

The hacks found on Internet for the conversion of 3gp files to Mp4 cannot be trusted.

XDA member scuccia has however found a solution to this problem. Now, all those who had been avoiding the Droid Incredible for the sole reason that it saves media files in 3gp format will be able to own the device and enjoy its innumerable other incredible features.

XDA member scuccia’s small patch prevents conversion of the movies’ extension by the camera. This saves you from the tedious conversion process of 3gp movies to Mp4 format.

Also, this patch will be compatible with all other devices that shoot videos in Mp4 format but cannot save them in the same. This way you will be able to play your videos or movies in any media player as most of the current players support Mp4 files.  However, the patch has been made available for the Droid Incredible only but it will soon be able for other devices also.

Firstly, make sure that you have made a backup of your HTC Camera.apk prior to the actual process. You should also not try to make too many changes as the patch only alters the files’ extension. This is because the patch works only for those video files that were originally recorded in Mp4 format but were changed to some other format while storing.

This change in the file’s extension would retain the original good quality of the video.

Other than this, there is software for the conversion process named as Video To HTC Droid Incredible Converter that can convert DiVX, XVID, VOB, MTS, AVI, MOV, SWF, OGG, F4V, FLAC, AC3, etc. to Mp3, Mp4, AAC, WMV, 3gp and 3g2 format so that the media file could be played on Droid Incredible.
