Garmin’s Latest Edge 800 Cycling GPS Gets a Touchscreen

The Edge 800 is an improvement over the preceding Edge 500 & 705 models by Garmin. Edge 800 has maintained the features that were present in the predecessors and has added the power of a touchscreen to it. Undoubtedly, it deserves to be called the ultimate cycling GPS system.
Edge 800 sports a 2.6-inch display with backlighting technology that offers an impressive view. Also, the easily mountable Edge 800 does not require any calibration.
The Edge 800 is similar to the preceding model Edge 500 in its size except for a 20% to 30% increase. In terms of function, Edge 800 resembles Edge 705 but for the physical buttons that were present in the latter model. Also, Edge 800 has a larger display than that of Edge 705.
Edge 800 features 37 x 55mm screen that can display a maximum of 10 pieces of information.
Also, the navigation system by Garmin is made of HotFix technology that enables the device to acquire satellite reception rapidly and maintain it. Edge 800 tracks speed, time and distance along with elevation, GPS position, climb, descent and more. In addition to that, Edge 800 maintains record of how many calories you have burned. So, it means a perfect combination of cycling and fitness.
After the Edge 800 has recorded all the above-mentioned information, you can upload the information on Garmin Connect, the online community where you can join for free. The community will display this vital information via charts. Garmin Connect also makes use of map representations to display the speed, time and distance, elevation, GPS position, climb and descent information. The maps include elevation maps, topographic maps, street maps, satellite maps, etc.
Moreover, Edge 800 gives 15-hour battery life which is way above the normal navigation systems. Also, the pre-configured model comes with microSD card slot that accepts CityNavigator maps by Garmin.
However, to attain this marvelous Edge 800, you will have to shell out a lump sum of $449 for the standalone version and $649 for the pre-configured one.
