DXG-A85V Pro Gear HD camcorder has been introduced by DXG USA. It has a standard facade with a 3″ touch screen display and a flip-out LCD. The device is about 4.92″ in length, 2.52″ in width and 2.52″ in height.

The device incorporates some remarkable features like electronic image stabilization, eye-fi wireless ready, dual-capture mode, digital voice recording etc.

The DXG’s A85V is a high definition video camera. It has many features that support its claim, such as a resolution of 1080p resolution at 30fps. It has a 12x optical zoom lens that is supported by a second 10x digital zoom lens. The 12x zoom lens achieves a zoom of 36-428mm; based on the 35mm SLR format. The H.264 .MOV file format is used to capture video.

The camera also allows for still captures because of the 12-megapixel feature. The camcorder supports video resolutions of 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 30- and 60 fps. Also, lower resolutions for a standard-def shooting. It does not however, support a video resolution of 1080p/24 or 1080i. In addition, there is a dual capture mode, which allows users to click picture and shoot a video simultaneously.

It has a manual focus control, which can be operated by tapping on the touch screen. The touch screen is uncluttered and simple without many buttons. There is an attached stereo microphone with this camcorder. However, it does not capture sounds appropriately.

Another drawback is that the device also does not have any provision for attaching external microphones. The auto white balance feature is not very high-quality as any variation in the light source can distort the colors. Even the auto focus does not work well; especially in low light settings.

The NTSC and PAL formats are user selectable. It can be connected to two external interfaces; namely the HDMI and USB. The camcorder includes 128MB of built in flash. You can also use an SD card if you want to record further. The device can support an SD cards up to a capacity of 16GB.

It runs on a Lithium-Ion battery and does not allow for usage of a larger battery enabling shooting videos of longer duration. The camcorder can also support a remote function, although it is not provided along with the packaging.
