HTC Freestyle is a new non-smartphone in AT&T’s product portfolio. It flaunts standard messaging features packed in an aluminum unibody case. HTC Freestyle is one of the first AT&T phones equipped with Qualcomm’s Brew MP operating system.

The Brew MP platform is primarily designed for phones that lack the high-end functionality of expensive smartphones. HTC has packed a 528MHz processor in the Freestyle handset.

The 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display of HTC Freestyle could exhibit 320×480 pixels resolution images. The easy-to-use Sense user interface enhances the functionality of the messaging smartphone. The Friend Stream application pre-loaded in HTC Freestyle organizes social network updates.

Users can promptly access the latest Facebook and Twitter updates without actually visiting these websites. The user-friendly Sense user-interface groups messages, texts, emails, status updates and tweets for easy viewing. Through the one-touch calling, messaging and emailing features you can instantly contact your family and friends. Up to twelve contacts could be added to the home screen of the device.

HTC Freestyle boasts of a 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with digital zoom and camcorder. It features FM radio. The full HTML browser of the device aids PC-like browsing. AT&T subscribers could access music and video services offered by the cell phone carrier. You can run Brew apps and games on the HTC device.

Currently HTC Freestyle will run on AT&T’s GSM and EVDO or 3G network. It offers Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack, high-speed USB 2.0 and microSD memory card slot. The internal GPS antenna supports location-based services. With the assistance of AT&T Navigator, the built-in GPS of HTC Freestyle will lead you to your destination.

The 1300mAh Lithium-polymer battery of the device supports up to 384 minutes of talk time and up to 16.2 days of standby time. HTC Freestyle will come with only 256MB onboard storage space.

HTC Freestyle will hit the shelves on February 13 with a $99.99 price tag along with a two-year AT&T service contract. Although Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of AT&T believes that the messaging device with “the HTC Sense experience, a multitude of apps through Brew MP and its top-notch construction” will “make a splash with customers”, it remains to be seen whether cell phone users will be ready to sacrifice an Android based touchscreen phone for a Brew MP powered device.
