Acer Puts Two Touch Panels on 14″ Iconia Notebook
After Libretto W105 from Toshiba, Acer’s Iconia Touchbook is the latest to enthrall the notebook world with its dual screens.
The Iconia, besides its usual 14-inch display, sports yet another multi-touch 14-inch display in lieu of the keyboard. That is the display in lieu of the keyboard will serve the dual purpose of a keyboard as well as a media management system.
Acer divulged a few technical info about this unique device in a recently held New York event. On the specs front, the Acer’s Iconia Touchbook features Intel Core i5 CPU, 64-bit Windows 7 (Home Premium) OS, Intel HD GPU, touch-enabled displays alongside 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, Wi-Fi connectivity, 3G WWAN, Gigabit Ethernet, VGA/HDMI outputs, ultra-speed Bluetooth 3.0, 1 x USB3.0 port, 2 x USB2.0 ports and a 6lb case.
Acer, most likely, would have the Iconia feature its own application despite the fact that it is based on Windows 7 OS. All these distinctive apps will sprint on the second 14-inch display with newer layouts, dial wheels and virtual keyboards.
The uniqueness of the second LCD display is its multi-touch functionality and users can navigate through it by using all of their fingers. Ideally suited for watching multimedia content, web browsing and office purposes, this dual screen Iconia offers better view and readability. Also, users can view two different things simultaneously on the two screens. That is, they can watch a movie on one screen and work on their documents on the other hand.
Each of the displays features CineCrystal technology for ultra brightness. In addition, the TFT LCDs are made of Gorilla Glass that helps make the Touchbook screens resistant to fingerprints and scratches besides rendering it an ultra-thin look.
The Iconia also comes with Acer Ring that is the key to controlling of all apps and features in the notebook and controls. Users just need to make the ‘grab’ gesture on the screen and the Acer Ring will appear. Acer Ring also works as a shortcut to the Gesture Editor, Virtual Keyboard, Device Control Console and Window Manager.
In order to make the interaction of the users with Iconia easier, free-flowing and more natural, Acer’s proprietary touch technology has been combined with the power of Core i5 processor.
Added to it, the Iconia sports a number of touch apps such as TouchPhoto, TouchVideo, TouchMusic and TouchBrowser for an incredible browsing experience through on-screen gestures. Other than these, there is the Social Jogger that informs the users of all updates on Facebook, Flicker and YouTube; My Journal that can store web clippings; and the Scrapbook that serves as a storehouse of posts, clippings and any other related materials.
